MANSFIELD — Madison Heichel is excited to begin her reign as Miss Ohio’s Outstanding Teen 2016.

The sophomore at Lexington High School earned this distinction Wednesday at the Renaissance Theatre. She competed in the Miss Ohio’s Outstanding Teen pageant for the first time against 13 other contestants.

She won the talent portion of the competition for her performance of “Don’t Rain On My Parade” by Barbra Streisand. Her platform is B.R.A.V.E., which stands for Building Respect and Values for Everyone.

“This has been her dream for 10 years,” said Madison’s sister Juliana Heichel.

Juliana, who was wearing a Miss Ohio Jr. High School sash, said she hopes to follow in her sister’s footsteps and one day enter the Miss Ohio’s Outstanding Teen pageant.

Both Madison and Juliana are talented vocalists who sing together and are known for their six-second singing videos posted on their Vine account, which has thousands of followers. The duo is expected to perform in front of over 20,000 people at VidCon, a multi-genre online video conference, held in Southern California later this month.

Madison, who’s part of Lexington’s honor choir called Fire and Ice, said she’s ready to take on the responsibilities that come with being Miss Ohio’s Outstanding Teen, having already juggled a busy schedule as Miss Shawnee’s Outstanding Teen.

First runner-up was Miss North Coast’s Outstanding Teen Danielle Vivcharenko of North Royalton. Second runner-up was Miss Mansfield’s Outstanding Teen Lauren Beard of Ontario. Third runner-up was Miss Northern Ohio’s Outstanding Teen Lily McLaughlin of Zanesville. And Miss Greater Cleveland’s Outstanding Teen Caitlin Seifert of Niles was fourth runner-up.

The Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program’s purpose is to provide opportunities for outstanding teen girls across Ohio who excel in their schools and communities to compete for college scholarships, according to the Miss Ohio website.

The winner is eligible to compete as the state representative in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Program, which is typically held in August.
