MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer’s monthly update to the county commissioners was brief and to the point before going into an executive session to discuss personnel.
The current jail population is 84. Four inmates are federal and three are from Lawrence County; 17 are female. The state jail inspection is slated for Nov. 2 and Nov. 3.
Shaffer said the Freedom Center is still providing drug counseling for the inmates. He continues to work on getting a full-time person from Behavioral Health Partners to provide a range of services, including drug counseling, intake screening and suicide prevention.
