MOUNT VERNON – Free Tai Chi classes will be offered at Ariel-Foundation Park at 10:00 a.m. Monday and Wednesday mornings in July.

Tai Chi is a gentle martial art that originated in the 15th century.  Today it is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. Tai chi involves a series of movements in a slow, focused manner accompanied by deep breathing.    Tai Chi exercises the whole body, is easy to learn and is suitable for nearly everyone.

The classes will be led by Marshall Winkle who has practiced Tai Chi for over 20 years and taught since 2005.   Winkle says he has found this style of exercise to provide the most benefit for seniors and others with range of motion issues.   The class is open to all ages.

Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels.  Each posture flows into the next ensuring the body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is noncompetitive and requires no special equipment.

Information about the class is available in the Urton Clock House when it is open during the weekends.   No registration is required.   Meet at the Schnormeier Event Center at 10 am Wednesday, July 6.
