MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred at approximately 6:45 P.M. on Friday, June 3rd on US 3 at the intersection of Wells Road in Monroe Township.

Arthur J. Bolduc, 85, of Mount Vernon, was operating a White 2006 Ford Taurus turning north from Wells Road onto US 3.  Lauren B. Downes, age 32 of Mount Vernon, was operating a 2011 Grey Honda Civic southbound on US 3 when Bolduc failed to yield a stop sign from Wells Road.  The Honda Civic struck the Ford Taurus on the driver’s side.  The Ford Taurus went off of the right side and struck an embankment.

Mr. Bolduc was transported to the Knox Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  Ms. Downes was transported to the Knox Community Hospital where she was assessed and then transported to Grant Hospital for further treatment. Ms. Downes is currently listed in stable condition.

Alcohol or drug use is not a factor in the investigation at this time.  The seat belt was in use for the Accord, it is unknown at this time for the Taurus.

Family has been notified. The Mount Gilead Post was assisted by the Mount Vernon Fire and EMS.  The crash remains under investigation by the Mount Gilead Post of the State Highway Patrol.
