DANVILLE –The Danville Lion’s Club will again host the annual 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, June 18, 2016 as part of the 2016 Danville-Howard Turkey Festival. The Lions have renamed the race the “Officer Tom Cottrell Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk.” Danville Police Officer Cottrell lost his life in the line of active duty on January 18, 2016. The Danville Lions Club will honor the memory of fallen Officer Cottrell by donating the net proceeds this race to the “Officer Cottrell’s Children Scholarship Fund.”
The race will be on the Kokosing Gap Trail from Richard St to Humbert Road and back. The Start / Finish Lines are at the Danville Richards Street Trail Entrance.
A free event T-Shirt will be included to those who register on or before June 4, 2016. Registration for the runners and walkers will be $7.00 for those 12 years old and under, and $15.00 for those 13 years old and over. Highlights of this year’s Festival will include performances by a wide variety of musicians and performers including Katty Whomp-us, Safire Sun, Chestnut Ridge, the Caffiends, and The Kokosing River Surf Club. The activities will also include Gigantic Inflatable Rides, delicious food, crafts, games, the Little Miss/Mr. Turkey Contest, the Officer Tom Cottrell Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk, a car & truck show, traditional and Amish auctions and the annual Turkey Festival Parade. The Festival will once again close the event with its annual display of fireworks on Saturday, June 18th.
