WICHITA, KANSAS – Six Mount Vernon YMCA gymnasts traveled to Wichita to compete in the 2015 YMCA Nationals Gymnastics Championships, June 25 through June 27th, against more than 1,000 athletes from all across the country. This years YMCA of Mount Vernon Nationals Team was composed of gymnasts aged 12 years to 18 years of age competing in gymnastics levels 5, 7, 8 and 9 as well as Xcel Gold.
Emily McKinley, 15, of Mount Vernon, was the only Level 5 who competed from the Mount Vernon Team. She placed 14th on Vault, 9th on Bars and 9th on Beam. She was the National Gymnastics Champion for Level 5 on Floor and finished 3rd All-Around.
Emilie Schworm, 16, of Howard, was the sole Level 7 gymnast on the Mount Vernon team. She placed 2nd on Vault and on 11th on Bars. Emilie is a National Gymnastics Champion for Level 7 on both Beam and Floor. She finished 2nd All- Around.

Two Xcel Gold gymnasts also had solid performances at Nationals. Danielle Wynkoop, 15, of Mount Vernon, placed 6th on Bars, 10th on Beam and 5th on Floor. Danielle is the National Champion on Vault and finished 5th All-Around.
Marisol Ausec, 12, of Mount Vernon, placed 8th on Vault, 14th on Bars, 7th on Beam, 12th on Floor and 14th AllAround.
Competing as a Level 8, Brittany Shaw, 15, of Mount Vernon, placed 16th on Vault, 18th on Bars, 7th on Floor and 14th on Vault. She placed 14th All-Around.
Rounding out the YMCA of Mount Vernon Gymnastics Team as a Level 9 was Sadie Brass, 18 of Mount Vernon. As part of the Level 9 program, Sadie competed three rounds at the Championship event. In Round 1 and Round 2 All Around Awards and event finals were determined. In Round 3 only the top 8 gymnasts on each event competed for the National Title. Sadie advanced to Round 3 on Balance Beam and Floor where she placed 9th and 8th respectively. She placed 12th All-Around.
The YMCA of Mount Vernon gymnastics team practices year round and consists of competitive Levels 2-9. The YMCA Gymnastics Team has held top honors in State and National Level competitions for the past several years.
The YMCA also offers Recreational Gymnastics Classes throughout the year for girls and boys ages 3 & older. A variety of classes ranging from preschool to school age are available for kids regardless of previous gymnastics experience. Call 740.392.9622 for more information.
