MOUNT VERNON – If work continues on schedule, in just three months Mount Vernon Nazarene University will open downtown’s new hotel on September 1st. The building on the site of the former Curtis Inn has been under construction since March. MVNU announced that the new name will be the Mount Vernon Grand Hotel.

On Saturday, KnoxPages.com captured this image of the hotel and as you can see most of the exterior brick work appears to be complete.

In September 2013, MVNU received a generous gift from Ariel Corporation, in the form of the historic Curtis Inn.

The original Curtis House Hotel was constructed in 1876 by local lawyer, businessman, and architect Henry B. Curtis. In the years following its founding, the hotel underwent design improvements and technological additions, changed management and ownership, and, in 1946, endured a devastating fire. Between 1971 and 1972, the original structure was replaced. Then, in 2013, Ariel Corporation purchased the historic property, and on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, demolition crews returned to the site to make room for the new building.

The Grand Hotel will be open to MVNU guests and everyday visitors. The hotel will feature both Victorian suites and traditional rooms alongside a number of other amenities including a breakfast room, a workout room, and a grand lounge with a fireplace and comfortable seating. Business guests and other large parties will benefit from the parlor with its beautiful fireplace and state-of-the-art business center, spacious conference room, and 1,800-square-foot banquet room with an attached warming kitchen for catering. Wi-Fi will also be available to all guests.
