MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon Director of Law Rob Broeren announced that his office filed suit against four owners of dangerous dogs who have failed to register the dogs in 2015. Working in conjunction with the Knox County Animal Shelter and the Office of the Knox County Auditor determined that each of these people had a dog that was declared dangerous, registered the dog as dangerous in 2014, but failed to register the dangerous dog in 2015.

Ohio Revised Code requires the registration annually and owners can be charged with a fourth degree misdemeanor for noncompliance. The four charged individuals are Nyle Hill of Howard owner of dangerous dog Diesel, Justine Kight of Howard owner of Huey, April Langston of Mount Vernon owner of Rocko, and Christopher Welch of Mount Vernon owner of Titus.

“Each of these dogs was individually determined to be dangerous by Animal Control. Under the Ohio Revised Code a dangerous dog either (a) injured a person, or (b) killed another dog” stated Broeren. The law requires registration of these dogs because of their individual histories and so that we can track them to help protect the community.”

If you have any information about these animals, please call the Knox County Animal Shelter at 740-393-6713.
