MOUNT VERNON – This morning’s scheduled test of all 15 of Knox County’s outdoor warning sirens went off without any problems according to Emergency Management Director Mark Maxwell. While the sirens did sound, not everyone can hear them. Maxwell says for that reason, he is more in favor of the Knox Alerts system started in late 2013 which provides text alerts on cell or landline phones. Maxwell says the warning sirens were originally designed to be heard outdoors. Farmers could hear them while out in the fields.
Maxwell doesn’t have exact numbers for the amount of Knox County residents who have signed up for the free Knox Alerts. If you haven’t yet signed up you can do so at this link:

The National Weather Service and the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness postponed their statewide tornado drill until this Friday at 9:50 a.m.
