MOUNT VERNON – Ground was broken Saturday afternoon for four neighborhoods that are going to replace the Ohio Eastern Star Home’s skilled nursing units 1 & 2.
The four neighborhoods will be built on open land off New Gambier Road behind the Hamilton Assisted Living Suites. 15-16 residents will live in one neighborhood with private rooms situated around a rectangle. Meals will be served family-style and there will be much greater opportunities for fellowship and socializing. Each room will have a private bath. There will be a total of 62 rooms.
Once the neighborhoods are completed, residents in Units 1 & 2 will move to their new homes and then Units 1 & 2 will be demolished.
Funding for this project is a combination of a low-interest USDA loan, a capital campaign and some of the Home’s investments.
Residents are expected to move into their new homes by early Summer 2016.
