MOUNT VERNON – On February 24th at 6:00 pm the Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to 301 North Mulberry Street on a report of a fire. On scene they found flames shooting out through a window on the North side, first floor of the building. The fire was quickly contained to one room.

Mutual aid was received from Fredericktown Fire and College Twp. Fire. There was no one in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

There were signs of people getting into the building and a small warming fire was found in the old gymnasium area. The fire room off the gymnasium is under investigation by our Arson investigator Terry Davis.

According to the county auditor’s website, the property is currently owned by International Missionary Resources Inc. of Crestline, Ohio.  The building was sold by the Mount Vernon Board of Education on October 27, 1999 and has been vacant since.
