MOUNT VERNON – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred at 5:35 p.m. Monday in Knox County on US 36 at milepost 14.
James L. Kesman, age 47, of Mount Vernon, Ohio was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on US 36. Stephanie L. Hays, age 44, of Mount Liberty, Ohio was operating a 2008 Jeep Laredo also westbound on US 36. Ms. Hays was attempting to make a left turn into a private drive as Mr. Kesman attempted to pass Ms. Hays. The two vehicles collided and Mr. Kesman was ejected from his motorcycle.
Mount Vernon EMS arrived on scene as Mr. Kesman succumbed to his injuries. Ms. Hays was transported and released from Knox Community Hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mount Gilead Patrol Post.
