MOUNT VERNON — Fire Prevention Officer Terry Davis was named Firefighter of the year at the MVFD’s annual award ceremony December 20th.
Chief Chad Christopher presented the award to Davis. He has completed the first full calendar year in the newly created position. The recipient of the award is nominated by fellow members of the department. The dutires and responsibilites of the Fire Prevention Officer are fire safety inspections, fire investigations, and fire safety education.
Davis actively worked two arson cases leading to criminal convictions and is current investigating the cause and origin of several other fires.
EMS Commendation Awards were presented to Bryan Cantrell, Bryan Conant, Patrick Hornsby and Daniel Rice. These four men were honored for the emergency medical services provided to a patient with a near complete limb amputation. Because of their superb EMS techniques, the patient was expected to make a full recovery.
Former Chief Chris Menapace was presented with the Distinguished Service Medal. This award is presented to fire department personnel who have performed notable acts of distinction in the performance of their duties. Chief Menapace’s accomplishments during his tenure have positively impacted every aspect of the Mount Vernon Fire Department. During his reign as a chief officer, Menapace changed daily operations by enhancing fire and EMS tactics, education, public education, technology, and communication. Chief Menapace’s actions have greatly improved the safety and well-being of department personnel, the residents of Mount Vernon, and the citizens of Knox County.
