MOUNT VERNON–Anybody in Knox County who has ever thought about running for elective office is invited to an open meeting hosted by the Knox County Democratic Party. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at KCDP Headquarters, 1 Public Square in Mount Vernon.
Democrats and Democraticleaning independents interested in running for any elective officewhether nonpartisan positions such as school board, township trustee, and village council, or partisan positions such as city council, county commissioner, and state representativeare invited to the open meeting.
“The Democratic Party is the party of the people, and we believe strongly in all citizens having the chance to run for elective office,” says Adam Gilson, chairman of the Knox County Democratic Party. “We want to hear from all citizens who think they might want to run for any office now or in the future.”
At the open meeting, party representatives will discuss the basics of campaigning for office, including petitioning, campaign finance, voter contact, budgeting, and time management. Representatives will also discuss support that is available from the Knox County Democratic Party.
