MOUNT VERNON — The Community Concert Association of Mount Vernon and Knox County’s first concert of 2014 is Saturday, January 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Theater. The Aeolus Quartet has been praised by The Strad magazine for their “high-octane” performance. They are described as among the finest young string quartets performing today.
Inspired by the Greek god Aeolus who welcomed Odysseus with music during his journey back from Ithaca, the Aeolus Quartet is eager to welcome audiences from around the country with rich and enlivening performances.
Violinists Nicholas Tavani and Rachel Shapiro, violist Gregory Luce, and cellist Alan Richardson formed Aeolus Quartet in 2008 at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Since its inception, the all-American quartet has been awarded prizes at nearly every major competition in the United States.
Grand Prize winners of the 2011 Plowman Chamber Music Competition, 2011 Yellow Spring Chamber Music Competition and First Prize for Strings at the 2009 Coleman International Chamber Music Competition, the Aeolus Quartet is a dynamic group that will blow audiences away with their conviction and verve. After all, Aeolus was the Greek god of the four winds.
Tickets will be available at the door.
