FREDERICKTOWN — Firefighters from the Fredericktown Community Fire District spent the last few months working on their annual toy drive to help the need within the district. Working in conjunction with the area Interchurch they were able to see just how large that was this Christmas. Over 129 children in the Fredericktown area benefitted this year from families identified from the local social services organization.

Utilizing a fire boot drive, poinsettia flower sales, and direct donations, the association gathered a large number of toys and had $5300 in donations to work with. Last week, firefighters and their families went shopping on Tuesday night to fill a trailer with toys for a variety of age groups. Gift cards to Walmart were purchased for the older teenage range. As the toys were delivered to the church for distribution, firefighters quickly saw just how successful the annual toy drive was as the toys piled up. Load after load they brought toys into the church, staging them by age group.

This was the seventh year of the Fredericktown Firefighters Association Toy Drive, sponsored by the association has no ties to a national program and is completely a volunteer effort of hard work and giving.
