MOUNT VERNON — Charges against the Knox County woman who nursed two deer named Trooper and Patch back to health after they were injured on her property have been dropped. According to the Saving Trooper page on Facebook, The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has dropped the charges and Carol Deyo gets to keep the deer, as well as four raccoons. Deyo had been facing charges for keeping the wild animals, which is against Ohio law.
After much support from the public and more than 12,000 likes on Facebook the state made the ruling Monday before a scheduled court appearance later this week. Over 15, 000 people signed a petition to give Deyo permits to be able to keep the animals.
Deyo and the Saving Trooper movement have been featured online, on television, radio, and in newspapers. The former vet tech has been battling cancer and the ordeal has taken a toll on Deyo.
