MOUNT VERNON — Every day ordinary people make extraordinary contributions by putting their needs aside to help others in our community. The Knox County Chapter of the American Red Cross wants to honor these individuals at their annual Heroes breakfast in March.
The breakfast will highlight the values of courage, initiative, compassion, personal responsibility, and humanity which underlie heroic actions which save lives and/or demonstrate an unusual degree of character. Money raised from the event will support services that are offered free of charge by the American Red Cross of Knox County.
They will be hosting this annual breakfast on March 4th, 2014 at the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene. Heroes will be recognized in the following categories:
- Kokosing Construction Workplace Hero: Honors a person who, in the course of employment in Knox County, performs a heroic action.
- International Paper Youth Hero: Honors a Knox County person 18 years of age or under.
- Central Ohio Technical College Senior Adult Hero: Honors a person age 65 or above.
- Knox Community Hospital Healthcare Hero: Honors a member of the medical or healthcare profession.
- First-Knox National Bank Public Safety Hero: Honors a police or one in the emergency service
- Mount Vernon Nazarene University Education Hero: Honors a grade school, high school, college or university educator who has made an extraordinary difference in the life of a child or adolescent.
- Brenneman Lumber Community Hero: Honors a person who lives or works in Knox County.
- Rainbow International/Schrock Construction Agricultural Hero: Honors and individual in the agricultural
- The Energy Cooperative Armed Forces Hero: Honors a past or present member of the Armed Forces or their family.
- Ariel Corporation Humanitarian of the Year: Honors an individual who has continuously demonstrated a heart felt concern and compassion for the basic human needs of fellow citizens over the course of many years.
