MOUNT VERNON – Foodstock Knox County, a night of ’60s-era music at the Memorial Theatre, is set to raise funds for Food For The Hungry on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. Suggested cost of admission is one or more food items (see top 10 needs list at www.FoodForTheHungryCares.org) and/or a monetary donation. If unable to give, the public is still encouraged to attend.
This third annual Chautauqua musical reunion-type event was the brainchild of event organizer Mike Petee. The last two years, the Chautauqua Beatles held a concert at the Memorial Theatre to raise money, and food for the needy of Knox County. “When I saw that the need was even greater this year, I asked many of our community’s talented musicians if we could put together a bigger program to help our neighbors in need,” explained Petee. “They came up with the idea of FOODSTOCK.”
Three groups will perform in a Chautauqua-style setting. The cast of musicians involved are: Jeff Putnam, Jim Frady and Bill Miller as Buddy Holly & The Crickets; Kevin Mishey, Robert Shipley, Bob Stulka, Skip Trask and Mike Petee as The Doors; and Desmond Wall, Roy Rush, Bill Miller and Mike Petee as The Beatles. Several special guests will also make brief appearances, including Elvis. People of all generations will enjoy this family friendly concert while supporting a great local cause.
“The Beatles affected not only their own generation, but every generation since the 1960s, as have The Doors and Buddy Holly & The Crickets. With each passing year, their legacies continue to grow. Like the event known as Woodstock, Foodstock will be an event unlike any other. This one night of music for the hungry is for everyone to enjoy and tell your friends, ‘I was at Foodstock!” said Petee. “If you are one of the needy, or know those who are, let them know this event is a Christmas gift to them as well. For those whocan count God’s blessings this year, please give as much as you can and remember the words of Paul McCartney in the final song recorded by The Beatles on Abbey Road—‘And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.’”
This event is presented by Elixir and the Chautauqua Series, which is co-sponsored by the Ohio Humanities Council and Ariel Foundation.
