MOUNT VERNON — Knox Area Transit announces its new partnership with Knox County Department of Job & Family services. Through a contractual agreement KCDJFS will provide leadership to KAT by replacing the now vacant Director position with leadership from its Director Matthew Kurtz.

Kurtz will utilize his administrative staff to provide oversight of KAT, including Martin McAvoy who will be the daily Operations Manager. McAvoy will report locally tothe KAT Board and on the state level to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Kurtz stated, “This is just another way that our department can utilize the shared service model of government to provide better service to the people of Knox County at an overall reduced cost.”

Immediately the arrangement saves Knox Area Transit approximately $25,000 as opposed to employing a director and operations manager directly. “I fully expect as we move forward there will be other areas of efficiency realized by both agencies,” said KAT Vice‐Chair and County Commissioner Teresa Bemiller. An announcement was made to KAT staff at a meeting Thursday morning. The official transition will begin on Monday, November 4, 2013.
