MOUNT VERNON – Just before 1 p.m. Thursday two MVPD officers responded to a call about a young boy found wandering in the roadway on Public Square. The officers contacted the complainant, Jeff Cline, who said that the juvenile was walking unattended on the Public Square.
The boy reportedly didn’t have any socks or shoes on and wasn’t able to give police his name or the location of his residence. The officers tried to find the juvenile’s residence but were unable to locate it. Knox County Department of Job and Family Services was then contacted. Kristen Rogers, a Social Worker from the Knox County Department of Job and Family Services arrived on scene and took custody of the juvenile until a parent or guardian could be located.
This morning a spokesman for Job and Family Services said that the juvenile is safe. In situations like this, the agency tries to reconnect with the juvenile with the family to assess the siutation and the safety of the child.
