MOUNT VERNON-Election day is November 5 this year but early voting is available now for those who would like to cast ballots at their convenience.  Voters can go to the Knox County Board of Elections at 117 East High Street, Suite 210 in Mount Vernon.  Early voting hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Next Monday, October 7 is the deadline for voter registration and the Board’s office hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 9 p.m.  You will need to register if you’ve never voted before or if you’ve moved since the last election.

Knox County voters will be deciding school issues in the Mount Vernon and East Knox districts. Mount Vernon’s voters are being asked to approve a 2 mill renewal of a permanent improvements levy. In the East Knox District, voters are being asked to approve an additional 1% income tax and an additional 2.9 mill tax.

For Mount Vernon City Council’s 2nd ward, incumbent John Francis faces Greg Richey. In the 3rd ward, incumbent Nancy R. Vail faces Roger Robertson. 

Voters will choose two Mount Vernon school board candidates. Incumbent Stephen Thompson, Mary Rugola-Dye and Daniel Hamman are on the ballot.
