MOUNT VERNON-A 22-year old Newark woman accused of causing extensive bruising to the face, forehead,ear, sternum and back of a 16 month-old child she was babysitting turned herself in at the Knox county Sheriff’s Office at 10 p.m. Tuesday night. Destiny M. Beckholt was indicted by the Knox County Grand Jury on Monday. Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher said on the morning of June 28, the child Beckholt was babysitting was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with injuries that are alleged to be inconsistent with any accidental cause. Detective Dan Bobo, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case.
Ten other indictments were announced by Thatcher.
Christine A. Lang, 40, Mount Vernon, also faces endangering children charges. Thatcher said at approximately 5 a.m. on August 21, Detective Tim Arnold, Mount Vernon Police Department, responded to a 911 call made by Lang’s four year old child. When Detective Arnold arrived at Lang’s residence, he allegedly found her heavily intoxicated and unresponsive. After medics revived Lang with smelling salts, she allegedly blew a 0.293 blood alcohol level on a portable breath test. Thatcher said an endangering charge was filed for each of Lang’s children, and the charges are felonies because she was convicted of endangering children last year, in Coshocton County.
Robert T. Balcom, 22, Mount Vernon, was indicted on charges of domestic violence, intimidation of the victim and assault on peace officers. The night of August 23, Balcom allegedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend, and then he threatened her with additional physical harm, if she called the police. Thatcher said Balcom’s domestic violence charge is a felony because he was convicted of domestic violence in May, in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court. Balcom also faces felony assault charges for allegedly assaulting the Knox County Sheriff’s deputies who arrested him for the domestic violence offense. Deputies Daniel Selby and Aaron Phillips handled the case.
On July 30, when Tosh W. Lange, 47, Mount Vernon, was an inmate in the Knox County Jail, he allegedly assaulted a deputy in a dorm area of the jail. The next day Lange allegedly assaulted two more deputies in the intake area. Lange faces three counts of assaulting peace officers. Deputies Mark Fincato and Matthew Wilson and Sergeant Alan Hackman handled the case.
According to their indictments, Daniel A. Dales and Malcolm J. Hunter have prior convictions for felony sex offenses, and they are both required to verify their addresses with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Dales, 31, Howard, was convicted of gross sexual imposition, in 2011. Hunter, 24, Mount Vernon, was convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, in 2011. Both men are accused of failing to provide change of address notification. Deputy Daniel Selby investigated the cases.
Kurt T. Byers, 30, Danville, is charged with breaking and entering and theft for allegedly breaking into a bow shop and stealing a compound bow, on April 15, 2011. Byers also faces a grand theft charge for allegedly stealing a handgun, on August 2, 2013. Deputy Scott Baker, KCSO, investigated the case.
Patrick T. Underwood, 29, faces a receiving stolen property charge for allegedly possessing stolen property consisting of miscellaneous antiques and collectibles, between June 15-27. Thatcher said Underwood sold the allegedly stolen property to various antique shops, in Mount Vernon. Detective James DeChant, MVPD, investigated the case. A warrant has issued for Underwood’s arrest because his whereabouts are unknown, according to Thatcher.
Amber N. Anderson, 31, Fredericktown, allegedly stole Percocet tablets prescribed for a developmentally disabled woman, on July 4. Thatcher said Anderson was employed as the alleged victim’s home healthcare worker. Anderson is accused of theft of drugs. Patrol Officer Jessica Butler, MVPD, investigated the case.
On July 3, Robert W. Bowles, 58, Centerburg, was allegedly found in possession of a hypodermic needle and a prescription bottle containing a clear liquid later found to contain morphine. Bowles is charged with aggravated possession of drugs. Patrolman Michael Wheeler, MVPD, investigated the case.
During a traffic stop on January 6, Trooper Ryan Mann, State Highway Patrol, allegedly found Doris J. Caldwell, 38, Delaware, in possession of heroin. Caldwell faces a possession of heroin charge.
