Volunteers collect food donations during the 2018 Food For The Hungry drive.

MOUNT VERNON — Food for the Hungry is celebrating 39 years of giving in Knox County. On Friday, Dec. 11, community members have the chance to help reduce food insecurity in Knox County, and they can do it in a variety of ways.

One way is by visiting one of our 12 collection points. Collection points include:

  • In Howard and Apple Valley from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Red Rover Marathon
  • In Centerburg from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Hometown Market
  • In Danville from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Hometown Market
  • In Fredericktown from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at BellStores
  • In Gambier from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  The Village Market
  • In Mount Vernon from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Aldi, Kroger, Lanning’s Foods, Baker’s IGA, Rural King and Wal-Mart Supercenter
  • In Mount Vernon from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Knox Memorial Building

If you cannot make it to one of the drop-off collection points, there’s no need to worry. Postal workers throughout Knox County are once again supporting Food for the Hungry.

Simply leave an envelope in your mailbox with your cash or check donation. Write “Food for the Hungry Donation” on the outside of the envelope. Checks should be made payable to Food for the Hungry.

Our wonderful Knox County postal workers will pick up the envelopes as they come by to deliver your regular Friday mail. It’s that easy, and they won’t charge you any postage!

Due to COVID-19 regulations, postal workers cannot pick up food donations.

Yet another giving option is to call in your donation. Call 740-462-5904 and one of the wonderful staff members of WRP CPAs will take your donation over the phone.

For online giving, go to www.foodforthehungrycares.org, click on the DONATE NOW button, and then it takes you to a page to enter your gift.
