LEXINGTON -- The Mount Vernon boys basketball team struggled shooting the ball from virtually every spot on the floor while falling 47-32 on Tuesday night at Lexington High School in an Ohio Cardinal Conference encounter.
The Yellow Jackets (4-8 overall, 2-4 in the OCC) made just 12 of 40 field goals, including 3 of 18 from behind the arc and 5 of 9 at the free throw line.
The Minutemen (8-3, 5-1) took control early, grabbing a 14-5 first-quarter lead and opening a 27-13 halftime bulge. The gap was 40-28 at the end of the third period.
Blake Meyer topped Mount Vernon with seven points, while Nolan Meier had five points and five rebounds.
Max Waldruff posted game-high totals of 16 points and 7 rebounds to pace both teams. The Minutemen shot 52 percent from the field and enjoyed a 29-23 rebounding edge.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday at home against Westerville North.
Lexington hosts Wooster Friday night in a battle pitting the OCC's top teams.
