NORWALK -- The Johnny Appleseed Baseball Club 16U won the Erie County Slam Tournament over the weekend in Norwalk.
JABC 16U is comprised of players from Ashland, Mapleton, Hillsdale, Lucas, and Fredericktown. Their title came in dramatic fashion.
Facing the Lake Erie Warhawks-Brandy in the bottom of the 7th inning of the semi final game with two outs and bases loaded Andrew Smollen hit a walk off single to make the final score 3-2 and send JABC to the Finals.
Nick Kandel was on the mound for JABC in the championship game and pitched a 5 inning no hitter that JABC won 8-0. Winning pitchers on the weekend were Braden Reymer, Blake Benner, Andrew Smollen, and Nick Kandel. JABC batted .302 on the weekend and only committed 2 errors in 4 games.
