Donnell Marshall

Centerburg junior Donnell Marshall tip-toes the sideline during Friday night's game vs. Danville. The tailback finished with 125 yards and two touchdowns, leading Centerburg to a 43-point win.

CENTERBURG – The first time Centerburg and Danville played each other in a high school football game was in 1913.

It was less than a decade after the forward pass was introduced, partially as a measure to reduce injuries (up until that point, football looked more like rugby). The game was evolving, but most offenses still lacked creativity. That appears to have been the case in the Trojans’ and Blue Devils’ first battle – a game won by Centerburg, 6-0, according to records kept by Danville High School.
