HOWARD – This week's matchup features two of the KMAC's top programs from a year ago.
East Knox and Highland will go head-to-head on Friday night in the first week of conference play. The experienced Bulldogs are off to a 3-0 start, scoring an average of 47 points per game and giving up less than 10. They beat Northridge (0-3), Utica (0-3) and River View (1-2) to round out non-conference play.
The Scots, meanwhile, have begun the season 0-3 after losing seven first-team all-KMAC players from a year ago. Highland has scored just 9 points so far this season, having lost to Bloom-Carroll (2-1), Ontario (2-1) and River Valley (3-0) to begin the 2019 campaign.
Highland and East Knox finished first and third, respectively, in the KMAC last season, and the Scots' 50-7 win over the Bulldogs in Week 9 proved to be crucial in determining that year's conference champion. This year's matchup, albeit earlier in the season, is sure to be just as important down the stretch.
Reporter Grant Pepper spoke with East Knox seniors Kadden Lester and Dawson David, as well as Highland seniors Jack Weaver and Cam Cutrone, in this week's episode (hosted by Dave's Cosmic Subs in downtown Mount Vernon). Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Friday from Chet Looney Stadium.
