This week I had the opportunity to speak with Dorothy Gackstetter, from Graytown in Ottawa County. Ms. Gackstetter’s son, Scott, is developmentally disabled and relies on of Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, benefits. Their family is currently being penalized for doing the right thing, because of outdated government rules.

The Kroger Co.’s (NYSE: KR) Columbus division Monday announced associates working at stores in the region have ratified a new labor agreement with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 1059. The deal raises starting wages to at least $10 per hour and accelerates wage progressions to $11 an hour after one year of service. It also includes a premium increase for night shift work.
