Norma Siekkinen

Norma Hammerlee Siekkinen, age 91, of Mount Vernon, Ohio passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Mount Vernon Health and Rehabilitation.  She was born Easter Sunday, March 27, 1932, in Polk, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Floyd and Iva (Davis) Hammerlee.   Norma was a 1950 graduate of Franklin High School in Pennsylvania.  She married her late husband, Duane Siekkinen, on June 20, 1954, in Franklin, Pennsylvania.  They lived in Sandy Lake until relocating with Cooper Bessemer to Mount Vernon, Ohio in 1967.

She previously worked at Sears Roebuck Credit Department, United Telephone Company and retired from First Federal Savings and Loan.  Norma was a member of Gay Street United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women, organized the Agape dinners for the church after funerals and was also a co-founder of The Closet Ministry.

Norma enjoyed many years golfing.  She was also a charter member of the Lucy Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by a son, Eric (Elaine) Siekkinen Danville, three daughters, Lisa Phillippi of Howard, Lori (Edward) Lampman of University Heights, Ohio and Lana Siekkinen of Mount Vernon, grandchildren, Kate (Lamya Kamel) Phillippi, Whitney Siekkinen, Kelsey Siekkinen, Zach (Ashley) Phillippi, Ben (Audrey) Phillippi and David Lampman, great grandchildren, Anna, Avery and Cole Phillippi, Rumi and Noor Phillippi Kamel.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Gay Street United Methodist Church, where friends may call one hour prior.  The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Norma Hammerlee Siekkinen. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Norma’s name to the church missions or organ fund at Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 North Gay Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 or to the Lucy Knox Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution scholarship fund, c/o Sandy McCann-Treasurer, 2900 Ball Rd, Centerburg.
