Michael W. Small, age 65, of Gambier, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 25, 2023. He was born on September 18, 1957, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of William and Carole (Cranmer) Small. Mike was a 1975 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. He currently served as president of Small’s Sand and Gravel, vice president of Small’s Asphalt and Paving and vice president of Small’s Inc. Ready Mix. Mike took great pride in his company, his employees, and his customers at Small’s, where he began working at the age of 15 with his dad.
Mike was a member of the Ohio Redimix Association, Ohio Aggregates Association, where he served on the board and the Colonial City Moose Lodge of Mount Vernon. Mike was always full of life and energy. As most know, he was either working, playing golf, or having a great time chatting with his family and many friends. He was loyal, always willing to help someone out, whether it was at work on a project or just being there to lend an ear, Mike took the extra time to help his family and friends. Most important to Mike was his family, and he loved nothing more than attending his kids and grandkids activities to share and make great memories.
He is survived by his wife of 49 and half years, Cristia (Cornet) Small; his children, Tiffany (Tom) Burke of Mount Vernon and Michael (Mindy) Small of Saint Cloud, Florida, his grandchildren, Bradyn Burke, Alex Small, Gavin Burke and Amber Small; his parents, his siblings, Robert (Kristi) Small of Gambier, Sharon (Dave) Mills of Gambier, Mary (Phil) Gerrard of Howard and Jeff (Melanie) Small of Fredericktown.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Fred and Lou Cornet.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home- Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 7 p.m.
