Lea Woodward, 91, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at the Country Court Nursing Center.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1927, in Champaign County, Ohio, to the late Franklin and Virginia (Long) Speece. She married Robert Woodward on March 20, 1948, while both were students at Ohio State University.
As the daughter of a teacher and a college graduate with a degree in English, Lea passed along her love of reading to her children. She also taught her daughters to sew, knit, crochet, and embroider. She loved her flower gardens and was a long-time member of the Tan and Toil Garden Club.
She was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. Lea is survived by her son Robert Woodward; daughters Caris Eschenauer and Kim Woodward; her sister Grace Davis; her brother Melvin Speece; grandchildren Eric Eschenauer and Dawn Chow; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Lea was preceded in death by her husband Robert Woodward; her brother William Speece; and her sister Martha Kreager.
Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow beginning at 1 p.m. with Rev. Karen Oehl officiating. Burial will take place in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
