John C. Curtis, 79, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday morning, September 26, 2019 surrounded by his family at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. 

He was born on June 14, 1940 in Mount Vernon to the late Charles Emmett and Helen E. (LeFever) Curtis.

John served his country in the Army and the Army Reserves.  He was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple. John was an Insurance Agent for Western Southern Life Insurance for several years. 

He worked for the former American National Can in Mount Vernon and after retirement, he was a parts runner for Car Quest. John was an avid weight lifter, fisherman and sports fan. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms and shark teeth, but most of all John loved spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, Linda (Humes) Curtis; children, Traci R. (fiancé Mike Gouge) Curtis of Mansfield, Eric S. Curtis of Boulder, NV,  John P. (Barb) Brooks of Howard, Michael W. (Rhonda) Brooks of Mount Vernon, Lisa (Steve) Hinton of Brandon and Wendy L. (Bob) Marsell of Mount Vernon; step children, Leanne Tindall of Mount Vernon, Victoria (Ed) Piar of Mount Vernon, Stephen (Belinda) Savage of Howard, Susan Rambo of Mount Vernon and Cathy Cooperider of Sunbury; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; and his sister, Joan Lambillotte of Mount Vernon.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his second wife, Jeannine Curtis; a son, James Kevin Brooks; and a brother-in-law, Donald Lambillotte.

The family will have a private service at a later date.
