James “Pappy” Leonard Pappas

James “Pappy” Leonard Pappas, age 73, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 4, 1947 in Mansfield to Gus and Hazel (Brown) Pappas.

Unfortunately Hazel passed away when James was 7 months old and his dad Gus when he was 17 months old. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mary and Nick Pappas-Angelas whom also preceded him in death.

James was a member of the Green Valley Southern Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Karen Sue (Skidmore) Pappas; two daughters, Amy (Jim) Hunter of Fredericktown and Julie Squires of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Scott) Hinkle, Mikala Squires, Conner Squires, Ethan Hunter; four great-grandchildren, Nick, Madalyn, Adelle, Josie Hinkle; sisters, Tina Revelos, Sophia (Jack) Frost and Helen Kuritz.

James was preceded in death by his grandson, Caleb Hite and brother, Gus Angelas.

Friends may call on Wednesday, September 16th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Lasater Funeral Home. Where a Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor David Daniels officiating.
