Evelyn N. McManis, 93, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday morning, April 9, 2019 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. She was born on April 15, 1925 in Mansfield to late Port H. and Maude L. (VanSickle) Griffith.

Evelyn was happily married for over 73 years to Russell McManis and proud mother of one daughter, Valerie.

After 38 years of service with Cooper Cameron, Evelyn retired as Administrative Secretary to the Manager of En-Tronic Controls of Cameron Corporation.Β  During a leave of absence, she served as Secretary to the President of Meddars Oil Company in Wichita Falls, TX.

After retiring and moving to Florida in 1988, she served as Assistant Manager with Brook to Bay Mobile Home Park in Englewood, FL.Β  She and her family returned to Mount Vernon after 11 years.Β  At this time, she was employed for a while by Ohio Eastern Star Home as an Activities Aide working with the Alzheimer’s residents.

Locally through the years, she helped to raise money to build the first swimming pool in Mount Vernon and afterwards, served on the first Board of Directors.

She served as Secretary to the Board of Directors when the Station Break was started.Β  She served as President of the Cooper Girls Club and Professional Secretaries Inc. and also served on the Audit Committee for the CES Credit Union.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Russell; daughter, Valerie; sister, Marjory Troupe of Mansfield; brother-in-law, Dennis McGill of Crestiline; niece, Polly (Mark) Haynes of Mansfield; and nephews, Donovan Thacker of Mansfield and Norman Hayes of Mansfield.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice McGill; brothers-in-law, Lincoln Troupe and Donald McManis; niece, Lora Brown; and nephew, Β Lincoln G. Troupe.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
