Alice Marie Moyer

Alice Marie Moyer, age 85, of Mount Olivet, KY, and formerly of Mount Gilead, OH, passed away at her home Sunday, July 7, 2019.

On January 7, 1934, Alice was born in Morrow County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lewis W. and Anna C. (Bobick) Sipes. She graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1952.

On February 18, 1973, Alice married John F. Moyer. They shared over 27 years as husband and wife before he preceded her in death on December 2, 2000. They helped each other run the farm and were very active in the Montgomery County Farm Bureau.

For many years, Alice worked in laundry and dietary services for different nursing homes in Hillsboro, IL. She then did laundry for Hillsboro Hospital and lastly worked for Lutheran Social Services, from where she retired.

A woman of faith, Alice loved going to church and was a long-time member of Wares Grove Lutheran Church.

Alice will always be remembered as a loving, devoted mother and grandmother.

Alice is survived by six children: Donald (Diane) Sheffer of Burlington, KY, Mark (Brenda) Sheffer of Lake Wales, FL, Kenneth (Jennifer) Sheffer of Owensboro, KY, Gary (Cindy) Sheffer of Galion, OH, Debbie (Tom Bray) Costello of Litchfield, IL, John (Rebecca) Moyer of Mount Olivet, KY; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert “Bob” (Yvette) Sipes of Roseville, CA; and a sister, Dorothy Clark of Mount Gilead, OH.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Sipes; and former husband and father of four of her children, Wilbur Sheffer.

Alice’s family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Dennis officiating.  Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
