UPDATE: Knox County Coroner Jennifer Ogle told Knox Pages Tuesday that she was on the scene of the fatal shooting Monday night, alongside investigator Clifford Ruggles.

"I can confirm that the victim suffered a single gunshot to the chest," Ogle wrote in an email. "A forensic autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Preliminary results are likely to be released Wednesday evening."

MOUNT VERNON – A suspect was jailed after being charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a man in Mount Vernon on Monday night.

According to a press release from the Mount Vernon Police Department, officers responded to the area of North Sandusky and Calhoun streets Monday at about 7:35 p.m.

Upon investigation, they found John Serio Jr., 41, dead from a gunshot wound.

Caleb Sarge, 27, was arrested and transported to the Knox County Jail, according to Det. Matt Haver. Sarge has been charged with murder. The case remains under investigation.
