MOUNT VERNON – Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are seeking help from the public in locating two individuals, allegedly armed, near the Richland County line.

The individuals were last seen traveling in a red Pontiac Grand Am on Divelbiss Road, according to a Knox Alert sent by the sheriff’s office Thursday afternoon. The vehicle had stickers in its rear window, the sheriff’s office reported, and its license plate read “JIF8948.”

The individuals, a male “with shaggy hair” and a female, were not named. It’s unclear why they are wanted by law enforcement. The sheriff’s office did state Thursday that “they are believed to be armed with a gun.”

“If you see a vehicle matching this description, call the sheriff’s office and do not attempt to make contact with the vehicle or occupants,” the Knox Alert warned. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 740-397-3333.

Sheriff David Shaffer and Captain Jay Sheffer were out on patrol Thursday afternoon, according to dispatchers, and could not be reached for comment. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
