MOUNT VERNON – Unique donations to The Salvation Army’s Annual Red Kettle Campaign are a rare occurrence. But The Salvation Army of Mount Vernon was thrilled to receive a 5 troy ounce .999 silver bar in its red kettles on Wednesday, December 11th.

“We are so very grateful for the generosity and support from this anonymous donor. It is because of everyday champions like this donor, and the generosity of this community, that The Salvation Army is able to help our friends and neighbors in need, not only at Christmas time, but all the year long,” said Capt. Christine Moretz, Commanding Corps Officer of The Salvation Army of Mount Vernon.

Silver donation

This was donated to The Salvation Army during its Red Kettle Campaign on Wednesday, Dec. 11. It is valued at $80.

“Thank you to Mike McKee at Knox Coin Exchange for not only cashing the silver bar but adding a personal donation. It is truly a joy to work and serve here in Mount Vernon alongside the many supporters of The Salvation Army!"

The Salvation Army of Mount Vernon is currently at the peak of its Red Kettle Campaign.

“This year, we have a goal of $75,000.00 and are only 53 percent to our goal,” stated Moretz. The funds from the campaign go to provide year-round programs and services such as after-school programs, emergency food and utility assistance.
