MOUNT VERNON — As required by Ohio Law, the county auditor is charged with the duty to reappraise all properties in Knox County once every six years. The new real estate values are now available for the 2020 tax year.
During the reappraisal process, the auditor must revalue each individual property through a mass appraisal process that considers market sales for the prior three years. The goal of the reappraisal is to adjust and maintain realistic market values and to ensure that every property is being taxed fairly.
Every property owner is encouraged to review their property’s value by accessing the property record on the auditor's website, www.knoxcountyauditor.org.
If a property is reduced by the Current Agricultural Use Valuation (CAUV), that new value is listed below the market and taxable values on the website. The CAUV changes are a result of the Ohio Department of Taxation adjusting the formula that is used to determine land values, which is based on the type of soil and productivity of the soil.
Property owners who have questions can call the Knox County Auditor’s Office Appraisal Department at 740-393-6747 or email Reappraisals@co.knox.oh.us. Appraisers are available to assist you or schedule appointments from Monday, Nov. 2, through Nov. 13. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For CAUV questions, call 740-393-6748 or email AshtonUte@co.knox.oh.us.
Due to COVID, the auditor's office is still following social distancing guidelines and has limited public capacity. Property owners are highly encouraged to call or email.
Please note that the auditor's staff will not be able to determine what your taxes will be for next year until the tax rates are finalized.
