MOUNT VERNON – The man who allegedly stole over $1,000 from a Mount Vernon bank in July was arrested this week – 1,800 miles away.

Joshua Lee Cron, 31, of Mount Vernon, was arrested in Spokane, Washington on Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Service. A Knox County grand jury had indicted Cron on July 27 on one count of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, after detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department determined he robbed the Huntington Bank branch at 901 Coshocton Ave. on July 11.

According to MVPD Det. Matt Haver, Cron entered Huntington Bank just before noon that day.

“He handed a bank teller specific instructions and threatened that he had a weapon,” Haver said. The type of weapon is unknown at this time.

The bank teller proceeded to give Cron “pretty much what he asked for,” Haver said, which police reports indicate was $1,020 in cash. Cron then fled the scene and the police were called.

Security camera footage and witness reports confirmed that Cron was wearing a black mask, off-color camouflage shirt, and a Chicago Bulls flat-bill hat that day. He was driving a white Chrysler 200.

The police department issued a BOLO advisory for Knox County and the surrounding area, Haver said, and also posted on Facebook about the incident. Police reports indicate that Noelle Walton, a branch manager at The People’s Bank of Gambier, contacted the police department later that day, saying Cron was “inside her bank prior to the Huntington Bank incident.”

Walton said she saw the MVPD’s Facebook post and recognized Cron from the picture. A customer of The People’s Bank contacted detectives later that afternoon with corroborating information.

Another individual came forward that day with information on the suspect and the vehicle he was driving, according to police reports. The individual also provided detectives with “a note that was possibly used in the robbery.”

A warrant was issued for Cron’s arrest on July 15. As detectives investigated the case, Haver said they learned that Cron had family in Washington. After a Knox County grand jury indicted Cron on July 27, Haver said detectives forwarded their information on the suspect over to the U.S. Marshals Service in Spokane, including the location where detectives believed he was heading.

The U.S. Marshals Service worked its warrant and arrested Cron “without incident” on Tuesday, MVPD Chief Robert Morgan said in a press release. Cron was also facing outstanding warrants for separate offenses in Washington, Morgan added, although those offenses are unknown at this time.

Cron is currently being held at the Spokane County Jail, where his bond is $3,000.
