MOUNT VERNON -- With students back in classrooms, five Knox County companies and organizations have partnered to bring life-saving training to all schools in the county.
Knox Community Hospital, First-Knox National Bank, Kokosing Construction, United Way of Knox County and the Ariel Foundation have joined forces with citizenAID, a Columbus-based organization, which teaches people how to act effectively in crisis situations before emergency responders are available to provide medical support.
The partnership will provide citizenAID Public Treatment Kits in more than 600 Knox County classrooms, and High Visibility Wall Stations that hold multiple kits in high-traffic areas at all schools across the county.
The sponsorship also includes online safety, security, and trauma care training for all school staff members.
Additionally, every purchased training program through the partnership includes an educational one for one match from citizenAID.
Combined, more than 1,050 Knox County teachers and staff will be trained through the program. The following school systems are the benefactors of the partnership: Centerburg, Danville, East Knox, Fredericktown, Mount Vernon, Knox Educational Service Center and the Knox County Career Center
“With the prominent threat of violence and crisis situations that exist in the world, we are thrilled to partner with local leaders to make important life-saving initiatives a reality in our county,” said Bob Boss, president of First-Knox National Bank.
“This creative collaboration between five local organizations, our local schools, and citizenAID is an excellent solution that can have a valuable impact on our future," Boss said.
In 2018, Newark schools were the first in the country to partner with citizenAID, which is the exclusive Emergency and Bleeding Control partner of AASA, The School Superintendents Association. Granville schools added the program later that year.
Through a similar corporate partnership, Licking County schools trained its teachers and outfitted all of the schools with citizenAID kits in early 2019. Most recently, Franklin County Health purchased kits and trainings which will provide training for more than 1,150 teachers in the county.
The citizenAID treatment kits, training courses, and app were designed by emergency response experts with decades of experience, equipping people with the knowledge to respond in a crisis. It teaches a simple, logical system of immediate actions designed to guide the public to react safely, to pass effective messages to first responders, to prioritize the injured and to give life-saving first aid.
