Columbia Gas of Ohio plans to replace a gas line in Clinton Township impacting the Buckeye Addition neighborhood.

MOUNT VERNON – Columbia Gas will soon begin a natural gas line replacement project in Clinton Township.

The company plans to replace approximately 6,000 feet of bare steel natural gas pipeline with newer, higher-functioning plastic pipe. Two public meetings will be held for residents and Columbia customers with questions on the project, one Monday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and the other Tuesday, Dec. 1 at noon.

This plastic pipe incorporates new safety features and will serve Buckeye Addition customers for many years to come. There is no additional cost to customers for this project. This work is part of Columbia’s 25 year, $2 billion plan to improve the safety and reliability of more than 20,000-miles of underground natural gas pipe.

This work will require only a short interruption to natural gas service. Columbia Gas employees and/or contractors will make contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule re-light appointments. All employees and contractors carry identification cards with their name and photograph, and are required to show it upon request.

In light of COVID-19, crews are also following strict recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in order to keep everyone safe.

Soon, customers will notice preliminary construction work in the neighborhood, such as marking the right of way and existing utilities, and the inspection of sewer lines. Next, Columbia Gas employees and their contractor, Mid-Ohio Pipeline, will install new main lines followed by new service lines to homes.

Natural gas meters located on the inside of the home and some located on the outside will be relocated, depending on the circumstance. Columbia Gas will restore all property affected by construction. Weather and other circumstances depending, the project should be complete by spring of 2021.
