MOUNT VERNON – Voters will have the opportunity to see candidates for Mount Vernon's two contested races – mayor and 3rd-ward city council representative – square off in a pre-election debate on Thursday night.
The debate, co-hosted by Knox Pages, the Mount Vernon News and WNZR, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in Mount Vernon Nazarene University's Jetter Hall, Room 133. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
The candidates running for mayor, Matt Starr (R) and Wayne Link (I), will begin at 7:05 p.m. They will be asked a series of questions by the three participating media organizations, and each candidate will have time for opening and closing statements.
The candidates running for Mount Vernon's 3rd Ward council seat, Andrea White (D) and Tammy Woods (R), will follow the mayoral debate at approximately 8:10 p.m. Their debate will follow a similar format.
This year's general election will be held on Nov. 5.
