Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser

HANOVER TOWNSHIP – A Bellville man was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash in Ashland County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the motorcycle, Randall L. Beecham, 69, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Troopers reported the incident took place at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Ohio 97 near ODNR Mohican Road 51 in Hanover Township.

According to the Patrol, a 2018 GMC Terrain was eastbound on State Route 97 when it went left of center and struck a westbound 2002 BMW motorcycle head on, driven by Beecham. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected upon impact. 

The driver of the GMC Terrain, Thir Lal Uprety, 30, of Akron, was transported to UH Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland with non-life threatening injuries.

State Route 97 was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours.

Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were: Loudonville Fire and EMS, Ashland County ODNR, Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, the Patrol stated in its press release.
