MOUNT VERNON – There were 20 people found guilty and two sentenced this week after arraignments and hearings in Mount Vernon Municipal Court.
These were the cases brought forward by the Mount Vernon Law Director's Office.
JAN. 25
Visiting Judge Ken Lane found two guilty after hearings were held in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court on Jan. 25.
Bristyl Hunter, 36, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Wrongful Entrustment. The Court sentenced her to pay a $300 fine.
Ruben Nelson, 36, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Speeding. The Court sentenced him to pay a court cost.
Assistant Law Director, Steven Thomas D. Potts represented the City of Mount Vernon and the State of Ohio in the above cases.
JAN. 24
Judge John Thatcher found 14 guilty and sentenced two people after arraignments and hearings were held in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court on Jan. 24.
Nathaniel Fetty, 25, of Howard, was found guilty of Possession of Marijuana. The Court sentenced him to pay a $50 fine.
Kent Parker, 59, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was found guilty of Speeding in a School Zone. The Court sentenced him to pay a $75 fine.
Stephen Lybarger, 67, of Howard, was found guilty of Driving Without a Valid License and Not Having a License Plate Light. The Court sentenced him to pay a $100 fine.
Deborah Woody, 52, of Columbus, was found guilty of Failure to Control. The Court sentenced her to pay a $35 fine.
Bradley Combs, 47, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Driving Under an FRA Suspension. The Court sentenced him to pay a $300 fine and to serve three days in jail.
Angela Scott, 59, of Lexington, was found guilty of Speeding in a School Zone. The Court sentenced her to pay a $100 fine.
Corey Bednarke, 30, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Criminal Trespassing. The Court sentenced him to serve seven days in jail.
Mysaiah Bray, 36, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The Court sentenced him to serve 180 days in jail, with 170 days suspended, and placed him on one year of probation with the following condition: complete 20 hours of community service.
Mark Crawford, 53, of Howard, was found guilty of Domestic Violence and Aggravated Menacing. The Court sentenced him to serve 30 days in jail for the Domestic Violence charge and 62 days for the Aggravated Menacing.
Joni Smail, 39, of Howard, was found guilty of Theft. The Court sentenced her to serve 180 days in jail, with 155 days suspended, and placed her on two years of probation with the following condition: attend and complete the Court’s Social Responsibility clinic.
Jordan Grogg, 31, of Walhonding, was found guilty of Operating an Unregistered Vehicle on the Roadway. The Court sentenced him to pay a $50 fine.
Mark Hauger, 34, of Fredericktown, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $700 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 165 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control, and suspended his operator’s license for two years.
Earl Scoles, 52, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 174 days suspended, placed him on three years of community control with the following conditions: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention program and complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for three years.
Austin Serio, 25, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 174 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control with the following condition: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention program, and suspended his operator’s license for one year.
Ryan Dewyze, 39, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Tampering with Records. The Court sentenced him to serve 60 days in jail.
Tyler Gregg, 25, of Fredericktown, was found guilty of Failing to Stop After an Accident, Failing to Reinstate his Operator’s License, and Failure to Use Reasonable Control on Dec. 13, 2022. Today he was sentenced to pay a $200 for the Failing to Reinstate his Operator’s License charge. He was also sentenced to serve 180 days in jail, with 150 days suspended, was placed on two years of probation with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and his operator’s license was suspended for 180 days.
Austin Deems, 21, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Theft and Disorderly Conduct on December 13, 2022. Today he was sentenced to pay a $15 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with all time suspended, and was placed on two years of probation with the following condition: complete the Court’s Social Responsibility Clinic.

Michael Gumm, 56, of Howard, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $700 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 155 days suspended, placed him on three years of community control with the following condition: compete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for two years.
David Nance, 43, of Vista, CA, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with all time suspended, and placed him on two years of community control with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment.
Kevin Dorton, 40, of Marengo, was found guilty of Having Physical Control of a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control with the following conditions: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention program and complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for 90 days.
Matthew Marzetti, 19, of Mansfield, was found guilty of Failing to Comply with a Police Order. He will be sentenced on March 6, 2023 following a pre-sentence investigation.
