Sale of Champions

MOUNT VERNON -- Nearly $100,000 worth of livestock was sold at this year's Knox County Junior Fair "Sale of Champions" – doubling the dollar amount raised in 2020.

While the total sale number was not available Friday, Junior Fair exhibitors earned $96,420 during Thursday's Sale of Champions. Exhibitors earned $49,035 last year, and over $575,000 in total, according to Junior Fair Coordinator Samantha Beheler.

Ellie Kidwell, of Walhonding, was the recipient of this year's David Greer Award, which is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and is meant to recognize an outstanding youth member of the Knox County Junior Fair.

John McCann, of Mount Vernon, received this year's Hall of Fame Award, which is sponsored by the Junior Fair Sales Committee and is meant to recognize an individual or business who has played a key role in the livestock sale over the years.

The Supreme Champion Dairy Cow will receive 15 percent of the proceeds, while the remaining money will be divided equally between all dairy exhibitors -- project sold to approximately a dozen local individuals and businesses for a combined $2,870

This year's auctioneers and ringmen were: Thadd Blubaugh, Brian Davis, Chris Davis, Bernie Douglas, Mark Dudgeon, Matt Fowler, Steve Jagger, Dave McDowell, John Ruckman, John Sperry, and Wes Wigton.

The sale's financial agent was Park National Bank, and it was broadcast live Thursday morning by WNZR.

Final total numbers for this year's livestock sale will be posted as they become available.
