Disney’s Frozen KIDS and JR

Children rehearse in Memorial Theater for upcoming productions of Frozen.

MOUNT VERNON -- Children ages eight to 18 will perform adaptations of Disney’s Frozen starting this weekend at the Memorial Theater.

There will be two versions of the play performed: Frozen KIDS (ages 8 to 12) and Frozen JR (ages 13 to 18).

The Frozen KIDS cast will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 as well as at 2 and 7 p.m. on Sept 18. The Frozen JR cast is set to perform the following weekend with 7:30 p.m. shows on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25 as well as a final matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sept. 25.

Frozen KIDS runs for 45 minutes, while Frozen JR has a run time of approximately 90 minutes.

The KIDS version is recommended for younger audience members given its length. The longer JR version will develop the Frozen story further.

“I am always amazed at the talent our young actors bring to the stage,” director Bruce Jacklin said. “I am sure you will walk out of this theater proud of the entire cast and in awe of the energy in their performance. You will be humming these songs for days and you’ll find yourself smiling when thinking about these wonderful young performers.

"That is what a community theatre experience is all about!”

More than 70 children will perform throughout the two weekends, with 44 students under the age of 12 as well as 30 more seasoned artsIQ performers ages 13 to 18.

While the shows have been adapted for young performers, the Disney film's key songs, such as “Love Is an Open Door,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” and “Let It Go,” can be expected. The shows will also feature several new songs from the Broadway production.

Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased online at MTVarts.com, at Park National Bank One South Main Street Mount Vernon, or one hour prior to curtain call at the Memorial Box Office. Children 10-years-old and younger will get a $3 discount.

Music Theatre International provided the materials for Disney’s Frozen JR. Additional information about licensing Frozen KIDS or JR, or other Disney shows, can be found at www.DisneyMusicals.com.
