Colby Clippinger discusses the expectations of Gen Z as they enter the workforce during a conference in Dublin.

MOUNT VERNON — Colby Clippinger, Knox County Career Center Building Trades Instructor, recently partnered with Melanie Kitchen, the Director Of Chapter Development Ohio Contractors Association, while presenting to educators and industry partners at the SuccessBound Conference in Dublin, Ohio.

The duo presented on a partnership between the two organizations and the plans they have for the next generation of the skilled workforce.

“What if every employer committed to one student?” Clippinger asked.

Clippinger noted what Gen Z wants and needs as it enters the workforce. He explained a variety of priorities and methods to meet the needs of employees while growing the workforce. An example that he provided to industry partners is that this generation of workers values acknowledgment.

“It’s not that they need a trophy for every task that they complete, but they do value being noticed,” he said.

Clippinger discussed a variety of initiatives that he has developed at the Knox County Career Center. One is his “Dog Days of Summer,” when potential employers and other business/industry representatives are invited to the school to sit and have a hot dog while talking to students.

Clippinger is in the process of developing a new standard in the program which will be known as BT Elite.
