GAMBIER — Polka dots, stripes, checkers, and… honeycomb?! People see patterns around them everyday on clothes, backpacks, and tablecloths.

But what about the beautiful patterns the Earth naturally creates?

The Family Nature Quest: Pattern Party event is slated for July 24 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brown Family Enviornmental Center at Kenyon College.

“Join us for a morning of exploring patterns in nature,” organizers stated in a press release. “During a short hike, we will search for some of these patterns and talk about why nature creates such crazy designs.

“We will also forage for materials to make a nature-inspired mandala — a circular geometric art creation. Come on down for a pattern party.”

The Family Nature Quest programs are designed for parents to explore nature with their children. Families who attend this session will receive a copy of Rachel Carson’s Sense of Wonder.

Meet in the Picnic Pavilion. In the event of inclement weather, this program will be held inside.
